Can I treat a wood futon frame to use in my gazebo outdoors?

Can you answer KERRY R’s question about Canopies?:

It’s an indoor futon, but I would like to use it on the gazebo on my deck.

Canopies Feedback: Strip the wood and apply stain or paint for exterior use. If painting be sure to prime first.

Canopies Feedback: use a polyurtine to seal the wood if it’s going to be there for any amount of time, would not recommend you keep it out for the winter months.

Canopies Feedback: I’d put thompsons water seal on it and go for it!
